Press secretary Jen Psaki revealed at a press briefing last Thursday that the Biden White House is working in coordination with Facebook to flag “problematic” posts that spread “disinformation” about the COVID-19 vaccine. Psaki brazenly said out loud that the U.S. government is colluding with a private company in deciding what constitutes misinformation and what doesn’t. This is an unbelievable admission coming directly from the White House, who is also tailoring content to align with federal COVID-19 vaccination efforts, noting that said content is “boosted” or promoted for more exposure on Facebook.
During the press briefing, Psaki also admitted that the Biden administration is giving Facebook a list of accounts to censor for spreading “disinformation”. (Anytime the government is making “lists”, it is concerning.) Psaki argued that those who spread misinformation on social media need to be banned across ALL platforms. This sounds eerily similar to the Chinese “social credit score” designed to keep tabs on its citizens’ activities, also supporting the idea that “if trust is broken in one place, restrictions are imposed everywhere.”
The hypocrisy is rich here, since Psaki herself spread false information in 2020 stating as “fact” that Donald Trump knew about Russia offering bounties to the Taliban to take out US troops in Afghanistan and was still defending Putin. (This bounty conspiracy theory was later debunked.)
The revelation of Facebook monitoring comes on the heels of the announcement that groups aligned with the Democratic president, including the Democratic National Committee, would be working with the administration to engage fact-checkers more aggressively and work with SMS (Short Message Service. i.e. text messaging) carriers to dispel misinformation about vaccines that is sent over social media and text messages. How does the DNC alert wireless providers to information being distributed through mass text messages without it being a violation of privacy rights?
The President went so far as to level the extraordinary charge against Facebook that they are “killing people” by allowing coronavirus misinformation to spread. He has since walked back his latest gaffe.
Those Defining Misinformation Aren’t Always Right
Who gets to define “misinformation”? Are they without bias or do they have an agenda? Joe Concha, Fox News Contributor stated the obvious concern, “If the White House is colluding with Facebook on what is right and wrong speech (per their definitions) then every news item deemed negative to the administration can also ultimately be censored or suppressed outside of COVID”. The government and arguably the most powerful communications platform on the planet cannot and should not be working together to stop whatever it is they deem as misinformation.
Until about one month ago, Facebook censored posts about COVID possibly originating in a lab in Wuhan, China. Many in the media and in the Democratic Party called it a reckless conspiracy theory. Now suddenly it’s a real possibility, as even some Democrats are conceding. Facebook also suppressed and censored any posts about the contents of Hunter Biden’s laptop shortly before the 2020 election, which appear to show that he peddled influence by using the family name. It’s now clear that the Hunter Biden story was real, with Hunter himself acknowledging a federal probe into his taxes — one that reportedly began in 2018.
Those who want to be the gate keepers have been wrong on multiple issues just in the past year. Do we really trust them to be the gatekeepers of all information going forward? We do not need an authoritarian government using the reach of private companies to be shutting down opposing views on vaccines or any other topic, only allowing access to what they want us to hear. Are we not capable of assessing information for ourselves, consuming information and digesting it to come up with the truth? It is invaluable that we as individuals are allowed to look at all sides, with full access to ALL information to be able to make our own decisions, even if it is at odds with the “preferred” narrative. Yes, we are all vulnerable to believing something that is false. But there are greater dangers when delegating the information vetting process to someone else, especially the government.

Trump’s Big Tech Lawsuit Just Got Stronger
It is important to remember that Trump’s class-action lawsuit against Facebook, Twitter and Google, as well as their CEOs, is targeting the fact that the government is using Big Tech to censor Conservatives. If Big Tech is behaving like an arm of government it must obey the First Amendment. Speaking with FNC’s Maria Bartiromo on “Sunday Morning Futures”, Senator Ted Cruz had the following comment:
“The Supreme Court has long recognized a line of cases that, when government uses a private company as a tool, as an arm to implement a government policy, in this instance, when government explicitly asks a private monopoly, censor the following speech that we disagree with, that that private company can be treated as a state actor. It is amazing.. … It makes clear that everything we thought about the Biden administration, about their willingness to trample on free speech, to trample on the Constitution, to use government power to silence you, everything we feared they might do, they are doing and worse. And I think [former] President [Donald] Trump’s lawsuit [against Big Tech] got much, much stronger.”
Get Off Facebook-but Stay Connected
Conservatives frustrated with the censorship are fleeing Facebook in droves. But if we do not replace it with another opportunity to stay connected and informed, we have effectively been silenced.
Checkmate.
There are multiple alternative platforms that are emerging and gaining followers. Whether or not you remain on Facebook, it is advisable to create accounts on alternate social media platforms to circumvent the censorship on the main Big Tech platforms such as Twitter, YouTube, Facebook and Instagram.
