With our Southern Border Wide Open, National Sovereignty is Under Attack

The number of illegal immigrants in the U.S. has reached record highs, with an estimated increase of 4.5 million illegal entries under President Joe Biden since January 2021. (The government estimates an additional 600,000 migrants crossed the southern border without detection.) The current December surge at our Southern Border is showing record numbers of apprehensions, with over 12,600 encounters in 24 hours.

NewsNation correspondent Ali Bradley tweeted on Tuesday that 66,000 migrants have entered the U.S. between ports of entry in the Tucson sector of the Border Patrol in December alone, and more than 60,000 did so in the Del Rio sector, which includes Eagle Pass. Altogether, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) personnel have encountered or apprehended more than a quarter of a million migrants in the first 25 days of December.

Intentional and Unsustainable

The Biden Administration has claimed they are trying to control the situation. But the administration removed surveillance video, ended the practice of DNA testing to identify those who were trafficking minors, cut wire and used forklifts to remove portions of the border wall. In addition, they sued Texas over the floating border barriers used to repel illegal entry.

These are not the actions of an administration trying to secure our border. These are the actions of an administration working to assist and encourage illegal entry into the United States.

The current response of our border patrol is not focused on deterring illegal entry into the country. It is focused on quickly processing those who are entering. Thousands are streaming into our country daily. Border patrol agents are expected to transport illegals from remote areas for processing. We do not keep them from entering. We provide for their transportation and give them free food, clothing, housing and phones.

Dangerous and/or Dependent

Who are these individuals that are flooding across our southern border? What happens once they enter?

Approximately 75,000 illegal immigrants were flagged by CBP for potentially having ties to terrorism or being a threat to national security. (These illegals were flagged in just 10 months leading up to August, 2023.)

Besides the increased security risk, a recent analysis by the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) found that nearly 3 in 5 illegal alien household are on taxpayer-funded welfare. The study highlights that immigrant-led households use more food stamps, Medicaid benefits, and the Earned Income Tax Credit than native-born households. 60 percent of households led by illegal immigrants use some form of welfare, while about 52 percent of households led by legal immigrants also use welfare, compared to fewer than 40 percent of native-born American households.

U.S. Government is Knowingly Placing Minors in the Custody of Sex Traffickers

Even more shocking that the staggering number of illegal entries is the news that U.S. tax dollars are knowingly being spent to place minors in the hands of criminal sex traffickers.

Whistleblower, Tara Lee Rodas, volunteered to assist the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) with the processing of unaccompanied migrant children and was deployed to the Emergency Intake Site in Pomona, California. But she discovered that children were being delivered to locations of known sex traffickers.

“Our sponsors (for minors) typically are not citizens. They’re not permanent residents. They don’t have a legal presence,” she said.

“I said (to the command center executives), ‘We’re getting ready to send another child to Austin, Texas,’ and they said, ‘Tara, I think you need to understand that we only get sued if we keep kids in care too long. We don’t get sued by traffickers. Are you clear? We don’t get sued by traffickers.’ So, that was the answer of the United States federal government… HHS did not want this information to get out.”

This should disgust and appall every U.S. citizen.

Hypocrisy at its finest

Many of the millions of illegal immigrants that have flowed across the southern border since Joe Biden took office are seeking haven in self-proclaimed “sanctuary cities.” Leaders of major metros around the U.S. have pushed for more progressive immigration policies in recent years by declaring themselves safe havens for illegal immigrants. They have been perfectly fine with Texas, Arizona and California shouldering the logistical and financial burden of the massive growth of illegal entry into our country.

Now, however, as the realities of the financial and social impacts of those policies sink in, some local leaders are thinking twice.

In New York City, Mayor Eric Adams has said the influx of migrants since 2022, more than 110,000 and counting arriving from the U.S.-Mexico border, will destroy his city. With more than 60,000 migrants still in the city’s care, according to the Department of Social Services, Adams blames a lack of federal aid and Republican Govs. Greg Abbott in Texas and Ron DeSantis in Florida for sending asylum-seekers to Northern states.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson pointed a finger at Texas Gov. Greg Abbott. He called it “sickening” to hold Chicago accountable for “something that’s going on at the border.”

Well, Mayor Johnson . . . Texas is tired of being held accountable for the failed policies of Joe Biden. And your hypocrisy is in full sight.

Defend Texas

Texas did not create this border crisis. We are just expected to bear the burden. Self-proclaimed sanctuary cities are dealing with an influx of thousands of illegal immigrants, while border states and the rest of the country are dealing with millions.

Texas must do EVERYTHING in its power to secure our southern border. No more sitting back and complaining that the federal government is not upholding the constitutional duty to protect and defend U.S. citizens. We must deploy all necessary resources to deter illegal entry.

The time to expect the federal government to do its job has long passed. It is time for Texas to stand up and defend our border with every legislative tool and tactic available.
